What's New

Winky and Filbert have competition as shop mascots. Meet Hugo.

Friday, November 6, 2009

Here's a peek at the newest shawl and stick pins from Jul...they are rosewood, ebony, sterling silver, and the stick is also highlighted with natural turquoise - Beautiful!
We also have five different kits for fingerless gloves that include a skein of Kollage 1/2 N 1/2, a new yarn that is 50% milk and 50% wool. We brought in all the colors, so you have the choice of five patterns and 10 colors! These are presented in a nice gift bag, so this is a great grab-n-go project or gift.

Speaking of Kollage, we also have all the sizes of 24" circular SQUARE needles! These are ergonomically easy on the hands and arms, and give you a more consistent knitting stitch. Try a pair out in the shop, we think you'll like them!

Mountain Colors Trunk Show

It's here! We unpacked 29 garments received from Mountain Colors Yarns today, and are in the process of getting them put out for display. They will be here through the 30th of October. And don't forget to mark you calendar for Saturday, October 24. YARN PARTY!!! We will have Nancy Brown in the shop - she's works for Mountain Colors and is also a terrific designer in her own right. She will have all the Mountain Colors yarns, samples of all available colors and all the patterns for everyone to see and touch (no drooling, please). We will have samples of the yarn for you to work with, and there will be refreshments and drawings for door prizes. We hope to see you on the 24th, but if you can't make it on party day you won't want to miss seeing these projects in person any time between now and the end of the month.

It Really IS Knot Just Yarn

So, tonight Diane stopped by with her massage chair to offer us 15 minute chair massages. So our Thursday night group not only worked on their projects, got help with problems, had a nice visit and shared finished objects. Tonight, they also had this option:

I'm just sayin'....

This could be an ongoing thing if there is enough interest. Let us know if you'd like to stop by for fun, friendship, fiber and a massage. Diane (LMP) will stop in as requested between 5:30 and 7:45. We close at 8 on Thursdays. Just call the shop at 360-755-7086 or send an email to becky-at-knotjustyarn-dot-com. You know the drill about substituting the 'at' and 'dot', right?

Dream In Color during the LYS Tour

Destination: Yarn. It's begun! Today (Thursday, May 14, 2009) is the first day of the 23 shop LYS Tour and we know we're going to have a blast again this year!

During the LYS Tour, we are featuring Dream In Color yarns with a special trunk show. We have the Tulip Sweater in the famous baby version and a "can't wait to get it on the needles" adult version, Tulip's "Sister" sweater Sophisticate, the baby Rocketry sweater, the stylish Lacy Shrug, the In Reverse Scarf, a Silver Creek Classics easy-peasy baby gansey, a great Fiber Trends Railroad Rib sock, our own Ribbed Watchcap design, and of course our LYS Tour pattern (we'll tell you what it is on Monday, until then you'll just have to come in during the tour to pick up your free pattern!) All of the other trunk show patterns are available and in stock.
Did I mention that we have EVERY COLOR of Dream In Color Classy in stock? Here's a peek at Yarn Mountain...the rack is circular, so you can walk around it and get inspired by literally all of the beautiful colors!

The hours of the tour are this Thursday and Friday 10-8, and Saturday and Sunday 10-6. We hope you stop in and enter for a chance to win one of four terrific Grand Prizes (worth a whopping $1150 total!!) and the Knot Just Yarn daily prizes worth at least $50. You can enter once each day for the daily prizes by stopping at the shop and filling out an entry blank - to be eligible for the Grand Prizes you must get a LYS Tour Passport stamp at each of the 23 shops on the tour. We have entries and passports available at the shop -- along with the tour activities, as in prior years we have our tea and chocolate truffle 'tradition' to energize you for the remainder of the tour. And even though we're featuring Dream In Color yarn during the tour, as always we have plenty of other yarns to tempt you!

We hope to see you during this year's Destination:Yarn LYS Tour. 'Til then,

Becky

2009 ReTreat ReCap - Day One (Friday)

We arrived at the Baker Lake Lodge on Friday afternoon, and put out the goodie bags and Knitmas gifts (a.k.a. door prizes) in preparation of our ReTreat arrivals:

And then after everyone arrived and got settled in, Knitmas started in earnest. The only thing missing was a decorated tree, but we had a lovely hearth and a crackling fire, good friends (almost family!), good food and drink. Let the fun begin!
Hey...Bartender!!

There were several lively games going on thru the weekend at the pool table, but I don't think anyone lost any SERIOUS money. The great room at the lodge was large enough that we had areas by the bar, fireplace, tv (movies and knitting videos pretty much all weekend), sofas/rockers/easy chairs, plus the dining area where we had a skein winding station and Pat did knitting machine demos. Here's some spinning going on:
As you can tell, most of us changed into our pj's on Friday night. You'll see in the upcoming reports that we pretty much stayed in our pj's all weekend!
To be continued...

Mountain Colors Winter Lace & Addi Clicks!

Just received a new order of Addi Click interchangeable needles. I've called those who were on the waiting list, and have a few sets un-spoken-for. If you want a set, give the shop a call at 360-755-7086 and we'll happily hold them for pickup here, or ship them right out to you.
We also received our order of Winter Lace from Mountain Colors, and I'm very happy with this yarn. It's a 50% Merino 50% Silk, with a whopping 1200 yards per skein. Shown from left to right (the colors are deeper than the photo shows) Ruby River, Mountain Twilight, Red Tail Hawk and Wild Horse:

Spring/Summer 2009 Classes & Events

I've just gotten back from the printer with the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of the Wool Street Journal - aka Knot Just Yarn's latest newsletter. I will work on adding images of the new class projects over the weekend, and you can see the class projects at the shop, too.

We're getting excited about the LYS Tour, which is coming up in May. The 14th to the 17th, to be precise. Extended hours are 10-8 Thursday and Friday, and 10-6 Saturday and Sundary on the days of the tour. We have Passports available in the shop now, so stop by and pick one up. You'll have four chances to win the individual shop drawings (one drawing per day) and if you make it to all 23 shops (don't forget to get your passport stamped at each one!) you'll be eligible to win one of four fantastic Grand Prizes: 1 - $500 gift certificate; 2 - $250 gift certificates; or a set of the new Addi Click interchangeable needles.

Welcome to the Book Boutique

The Book Boutique had their Grand Opening this morning, and are now officially open for business next door to Knot Just Yarn. You can find Daryl behind the counter at 117 East Fairhaven, and parking is available in our lot to the east of the building. I took a few snapshots this morning of the new shop.

We're really excited to have a new and used bookstore in downtown Burlington...and right next door to the yarn shop! Does it get any better than that??

Kauni is here!!

The postman brought a wonderful package this morning. We've been waiting a while for this one:
WooHoo!! The Kauni order has arrived!! We ordered four colors as a "test order" and are so delighted with the service, the yarn, and the promptness of the handling of our order that the next order will have ALL the available colors. In this order, we have
EQ - "Rainbow" - blue/violet/red/orange/yellow/lime
ER - pink/beige/brown
EH - beige/light blue/brown
EX - orange/red/violet/lime
Yummy!! Skeins are put up in 140, 150 and 160 gram balls, and the yarn has tremendous yardage - 400 meters per 100 grams. Watch for projects using Kauni on the next class list!

Happy 2009!

Hopefully everyone had a great holiday break, and are looking forward to 2009 as much as we at Knot Just Yarn are! There are many things planned for the new year, not the least of which are the ReTreat in March and the LYS Tour in May. We only have room for about four more ReTreat participants, so if you're thinking of going on the ReTreat call the shop and get your place reserved before it's too late! Dates are March 20-22, and the location is the Baker Lake Lodge. We have a lot of interesting and fun ideas for this year's ReTreat. Cost is $175 per person, and includes your meals for the weekend. You can also schedule a massage on Saturday, as we are bringing in a licensed massage therapist all day on the 21st - details at the shop.
I tried out a new camera the other day, and got a better image of the Jojoland Melody Superwash:

We have received another order of this yarn, and also have the Swirl Scarf and Shawl pattern The patterns sold out in just a few days, but are now back, along with the most popular colorways. Don't you just love the colors? The photo only shows two, but we brought in all the available colors in this line, and have them all in stock.
